Innovative medical devices

Developed by Norman Holter in the 1960s, the Holter is a portable device for recording, continuously and over a prolonged period, the rhythm and heart rate, in order to identify and detect possible disorders and prevent associated pathologies (stroke, heart attack, etc.). It consists of a recording box, connected to electrodes stuck to the patient’s chest.

For 15 years, the French company Holter Supplies has been developing cardiac and blood pressure Holters. Driven by the experience and vision of its President, Doctor Yves Faisandier, the company has chosen miniaturization and ease of use for the design of its devices. This strategy led to the creation of two very lightweight devices, with low energy consumption, reusable, environmentally friendly and allowing recording times of up to 21 days.

The first, called “AFT1000”, is worn around the neck and operates using a simple triple A battery. It also offers rhythmologists the possibility of changing the number of derivations to carry out a detailed and precise analysis of this that they are looking for. The second recorder, called “AFT Light”, is worn directly on the chest. Waterproof, rechargeable and wireless, it can record up to 10 days continuously and is intended for wide screening. Thanks to their reduced size and therefore their small footprint (compared to competing Holters), Holter Supplies recorders improve the quality of life of patients, adapting to all body types. Without stress or disturbance, patients quickly “forget” the device, allowing measurements as close to reality as possible.

Promote the detection of arrhythmias

In addition to its devices, Holter Supplies offers the “Quick Reader” analysis software. The latter eliminates artifacts from electrocardiograms and classifies the data into “complex” families, delivering an analysis by group, all in a few seconds. Cardiologists-rhythmologists can then guide their treatment with maximum precision. To familiarize yourself with its technology, Holter Supplies also offers tailor-made training, videos and practical guides, as well as email analysis of the results by its cardiology experts.

The main ambition of Holter Supplies today is to disseminate its technology, already used by several hundred doctors in Europe and around the world, in order to facilitate the detection of atrial fibrillation, a widespread heart rhythm disorder (1 % of the French general population and 10% of those over 80) and responsible for nearly 20% of ischemic strokes (by obstruction of a blood vessel). Just like the French Society of Cardiology, the company advocates for simple and direct access to examinations, in particular through pharmacies which could transmit the data to approved analysis centers.

Likewise, Holter Supplies encourages mutual insurance companies to commit to prevention, in the interest of patients but also to reduce their expenses (hospitalization following a stroke is very expensive, around €40,000, compared to €100 for a Holter pause during screening). Finally, the company would like to see Health Insurance carry out a real atrial fibrillation screening campaign through the Regional Health Agencies.
