The Ministry of Education has approved the reorganization or closure of 31 educational institutions

12 educational institutions or the educational levels they provide were merged with another institution. At the same time, the level of education in six educational institutions changed. Two educational institutions – Jurmala Jaundubulti Primary School and Jurmala Pumpurs Secondary School – will be reorganized through a merger, with the creation of a new educational institution on the basis of the reorganized institutions – Jurmala State City Secondary School named after Pumpurs.

Of all the agreed municipal decisions, nine related to kindergartens, mainly in Liepaja.

Last year, 52 educational institutions were closed or reorganized in Latvia.

The decision to create, reorganize or close educational institutions is made by municipalities as founders of educational institutions. Municipalities inform the Ministry of Education and Science of their decision by providing documents and asking the Ministry to agree on this decision.

When considering issues of approving a municipal decision, the Ministry of Education evaluates the quality of work of an educational institution, the availability of further education, the provision of transport, and the development of a network of educational institutions in the region. The opinion of stakeholders – students, teachers, parents – is also taken into account, the Ministry of Education and Science says.
