Timberland PRO has launched a three-year partnership with NASCAR beginning at Phoenix Raceway, moving beyond trackside signage to collaborate directly with track operations personnel on the development of specialized safety footwear, Heavy reported.
Sponsorship Expands into Functional Apparel Research
- Sponsorship integration expands beyond traditional race-day branding into functional apparel research for track workforces.
- Product development cycles target an 18-to-24-month window for potential retail shelf availability following safety team consultations in January.
- Brand positioning bridges diverse consumer environments, aligning motorsports engagement with existing skilled-trades marketing initiatives.
Connecting With the Skilled Trades Workforce
The footwear brand debuted as a race entitlement sponsor at Phoenix, backing the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race under a three-year agreement.
“It was just honestly like it was a match made in heaven. Like it was the perfect fit,” Timberland Head of Marketing Ryan Murphy told Heavy during the Phoenix race weekend.

According to Timberland Americas VP and General Manager Jen Marston, the sport over-indexes significantly with skilled trades workers. The brand aims to celebrate these individuals within their actual working environments, recognizing the extensive infrastructure setup and teardown that occurs away from the racing spotlight.
“Having the opportunity to tell the story of the people behind the race, the people coming in a week before the race, the people staying a week after the race is over, like all of this just doesn’t happen,” Murphy noted.
Developing Purpose-Built Safety Footwear
Away from the grandstands, the partnership centers on operational gear. Timberland has initiated discussions to gather direct feedback from NASCAR track operations teams, utilizing those insights to engineer improved safety footwear solutions.

The company plans to consult with operations personnel during their annual safety meeting in January. Product developers will examine specific job-site challenges to determine whether new designs can resolve unmet footwear needs in track management.
| Partnership Element | Details | Timeline |
|---|---|---|
| Sponsorship Duration | Three-year agreement | Initiated October 2026 |
| Debut Event | O’Reilly Auto Parts Series at Phoenix Raceway | October 17, 2026 |
| Workforce Consultation | Safety operations feedback sessions | Scheduled for January |
| Product Development Cycle | Prototyping to retail shelf | 18 to 24 months |
Murphy indicated that standard product development runs approximately 18 months, though focused prototyping could accelerate delivery. “The hope is that if we can identify some problems and work with the team to solve them, within the next 18 to 24 months, we’ll have something on the shelf,” he said.
Authentication Across Diverse Consumer Markets
While maintaining a presence in varied settings ranging from Paris Fashion Week to NASCAR weekends, Timberland executives emphasize consistent brand identity over environmental adaptation.
Achieving success over the course of the three-year agreement requires integration into the culture of the sport. “NASCAR teams, behind-the-scene workers, and fans viewing TBL PRO as endemic to the sport would be a mark of success for us,” Marston concluded.
