Yesterday the 17th edition of the very colorful electro festival started in Boom. But much more than a gigantic and highly prized musical event, Tomorrowland would represent an almost perfect parallel world. Or nothing is ever too much. An almost perfect world (because all the same, it’s a bit noisy), the land of tomorrow: Tomorrowland is to some what Barbieland is to others. Or a colorful environment, where the values of “freedom, diversity, respect and solidarity” must prevail. Tomorrowland is also the electro event which, beyond bringing together the greatest DJs on the planet (as much as the festival-goers, they fight to be entitled to their set), has positioned Belgium at the center of the map. around the world, over two weekends (the party continues from July 28 to 30). A stroke of genius by the brothers Manu and Michiel Beers, in 2005. While this 17th edition, called Adscendo, is preparing to welcome once again some 400,000 people from all over the world (we are talking about 200 nations represented), here is in figures why Tomorrowland has become iconic.
We don’t know where to look (nor ears). In general, a big festival has three, four or even five stages. Tomorrowland now has 16 stages spread over the site that welcome 750 artists, including, this year, Lost Frequencies, Purple Disco Machine, Tiësto, Martin Garrix… That requires quite a bit of space. The site thus extends over 34 hectares. We do not allow ourselves to die of thirst (or hunger). The quantity of beer served during the festival is equivalent to… an Olympic swimming pool! 175 tonnes of ice are also used over the two weekends. On the food side, we also see things big with two restaurants, 12 chefs, but also 100 stands where you can stock up on dishes from all over the world! Even vegans will have it for their stomachs! Tomorrow like tomorrow. And the festival therefore thinks of protecting the environment (even if the task is difficult). “Love Tomorrow” was therefore created to change “the vision of waste”, as the environmental impact of any festival is significant. The goal is to be 100% green by 2030. Recycling is now possible thanks to 590 volunteers, 1,300 bins that can accommodate waste on the site itself, in addition to 1,000 others backstage and 1,800 at Dreamville. It is also a village. Exactly, what is Dreamville? It is the continuity of Tomorrowland, a site where it is good to walk and sleep to live the experience at 200%. The official “camping” site welcomes some 38,000 people per weekend among the tents and the colorful decor. But in addition to accommodation (which you can bring yourself), Dreamville has shops and other boutiques (even a hairdresser!), as well as a relaxation area where it is good to engage in a game of padel to bind acquaintance with other festival-goers. Not one, but several festivals. The experience was so convincing from the outset that it spread far beyond Belgium. A Tomorrowland was thus born in Brazil and another in the French Alps, in winter. Throughout the year, the sound of the festival can be heard on a dedicated radio station, One World Radio (available on DAB from us), a music label, Tomorrowland Music, and a school for DJs and producers has been created. Tomorrowland is indeed a whole other world…
