The Algerian team defeated its guest Cameroon, with a goal signed by Islam Slimani, in the 40th minute of the match.
Riyad Mahrez’s companions need to win or draw any result in the return match next Tuesday.
In turn, Tunisia returned with a precious victory from Mali, which came with friendly fire through Mali defender Moussa Sissoko.
The Tunisian national team will host its Mali counterpart in the second leg of the decisive round next Tuesday.
