The emotional well-being of various people who suffer from chronic pathologies is weakened. For this reason, strategies are requested to deal with these diseases from a point that considers the emotional sphere, Health mental, biopsychosocial perspective, from the Platform of Patient Organizations (POP).
Given his condition, at least 50% of people with chronic diseases they feel isolated from society; the prevailing symptoms affect the educational, economic, labor, social, and family aspects.
Likewise, it frequently affects in areas related to general health and daily life. Faced with the limitations that they entail, people see how such pathologies affect, to the same extent, their emotional well-being.
Chronic diseases generate depressive symptoms
The circumstance “also affects their mental health, since around 70% of people with chronic disease experience depressive symptoms such as fatigue, sadness or apathy,” warned the president of POP, Carina Escobar, to the Geriatricarea portal.
He declared that the increase in mental disorders, especially after the pandemic in adolescents and young people, “makes it necessary take common and concrete actions. This silent pandemic requires that measures be identified that help address these pathologies from a biopsychosocial perspective that considers mental and emotional health.”
In the last two years, mental health in the population has worsened more often. “More than 50% of the chronic patients feel isolated from society due to his illness. In these cases, specific determining factors influence, such as the emotional background, the experience of the disease, the greater health vulnerability and the need for medical attention ”, he explained.
From his perspective, “the psycho-emotional impact has been especially relevant in vulnerable groups such as people with psychological disorders and older people with chronic illnessto whom the social isolation of the pandemic has placed them in a context of unwanted loneliness and lack of social protection ”, he alleged.
