These are the results of the Central Ethics Committee meeting announced today by the Power of the People.
“It is an issue that has damaged the reputation of the political party and has caused disappointment to the people,” and released the list of starting disciplinary procedures, including CEO Lee Jun-seok.
The reason was stated as “violation of the duty to maintain dignity related to the suspicion of the teacher destroying evidence.”
In December of last year, a conservative YouTube channel raised allegations of sexual favors by CEO Lee, and the police launched an investigation.
Recently, additional allegations have been raised that Lee’s aide tried to cover up the case by requesting a statement from the informant that it was not sexual favors and writing a deed promising an investment worth 700 million won.
When this happened, the Party Ethics Committee began disciplinary deliberation on the ‘suspicion of destruction of evidence’ separately from the police investigation into the allegation of sexual favors.
The ethics committee has no evidence to investigate the sexual entertainment allegations, but it is the ethics committee’s judgment that it can self-investigate the transcripts of the evidence destruction allegations.
An official from the People’s Power Ethics Committee said, “As new content has been released, we decided to see why the deed was written and what the transcript contains.” “The level of disciplinary action has not been discussed.”
CEO Lee Jun-seok, who initially strongly opposed the sexual entertainment allegations as groundless, expressed his discomfort with the decision of the Ethics Committee.

“This is an issue that the investigative agency is dealing with, and it is difficult for the Ethics Committee to judge.
The party spokesperson also drew a line that the decision of the ethics committee is only a process to confirm that there is a complaint.
The decision of the Party Ethics Committee to initiate disciplinary action once morest an incumbent party leader is unprecedented, and the result of the disciplinary action is likely to have a significant impact on Chairman Lee’s future political actions.
