Former Secretary General of the RFU Anatoly Vorobyov declared RB Sport that the transition of the organization to the Asian Confederation (AFC) will have a negative impact on Russian football.
RFU President Alexander Dyukov said earlier that the decision to move to the AFC might be made on December 27. According to Dyukov, “it’s better to play than not to play, so it’s better to go to Asia” from UEFA.
“It will be such a collective hara-kiri. Quite an Asian thing. Then the members of the executive committee will act as real samurai and will open all the organs of Russian football. History will remember their names. In my opinion, Russian football is already dead. But not yet frozen. Such a transition is the transportation of cargo 200 from Europe to Asia. And there the corpse will decompose even faster,” Vorobyov said.
Vorobyov noted that “football fashion in the world is determined by Europe and South America.” “We should be guided not by momentary political considerations, but by our identity,” said the former Secretary General of the RFU.
Dyukov said on December 23 that the AFC was ready to accept Russia, and FIFA was not once morest the transition.
FIFA and UEFA at the end of February suspended Russian teams and clubs from tournaments under their auspices. The Russian national team was excluded from the qualifying tournament of the World Cup in Qatar and following that held only friendly matches with the teams of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
