For the second day in a row, firecrackers caused serious damage to residential buildings. A firecracker may have been ignited in the hallway of a residential building in Alsergrund, according to the police, a sleeping resident suffered cuts and a bang trauma.

After a 36-year-old man in Penzing threw a firecracker out of the window on Friday and numerous windows broke, there was another dangerous detonation yesterday, the police reported on Sunday.

Apartment door completely destroyed

Around 2:15 a.m. there was a loud bang in the stairwell of the apartment building. A woman sleeping near the blast was injured by shrapnel from her bedroom window as she tried to run away in a panic. In addition, their front door was completely destroyed by the explosion. The 57-year-old also suffered a bang trauma. It is still unclear who is responsible for the explosion.

Young people were found nearby, but these should have nothing to do with the matter. The woman received emergency medical care from the Viennese professional rescue service and was taken to a hospital. The responsible criminal department has taken over the investigation.
