MARRAKECH, Morocco, Oct 13 (Archyde.com) – Inflation in the euro zone has started to return towards the 2% target but the European Central Bank (ECB) remains ready to tighten its policy further if necessary, declared Friday the president of the Frankfurt institution, Christine Lagarde.
“Our goal, our mission is to bring inflation down to 2% in the medium term, and we will do that, and that is what is happening right now,” she said at a meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) held in Marrakech, Morocco.
Christine Lagarde, however, added that the central bank would maintain its restrictive policy as long as necessary. (Report by Balazs Koranyi, French version Claude Chendjou, edited by Blandine Hénault)
