Felicity Huffman seems ready to take its place back in the spotlight! The actress has just given her first interview in several years, finally addressing the massive corruption scandal that rocked her in 2019, when it was revealed that she had paid $15,000 to secure admission of his eldest daughter to a prestigious university. She spoke on the American channel ABC7, first explaining that she had been approached by Rick Singer, the university advisor behind the affair.

“People think I was trying to cheat the system and make criminal deals in back alleys, but that’s not the case. I worked with a highly recommended college advisor (…) and trusted him implicitly. ” she confided, before continuing, “After a year, he started saying, ‘Your daughter won’t get into any of the universities she wants.’ So I believed him. » This is how she claims to have found herself embroiled in the process of corruption and in this “criminal project”. “I felt like I had to give my daughter a chance at a future (…), which meant I had to break the law. » she explained, specifying that it seemed to her to be the only option to offer a future to her daughter. “I know I should have taken a step back, but I felt like I would be a bad mother if I didn’t. » she added.

As a reminder, it was an FBI investigation that uncovered what was later called the “Varsity Blues Scandal”, a national criminal conspiracy aimed at influencing admissions to several renowned universities in the United States. . Dozens of parents were subsequently prosecuted for their involvement, including actresses Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman. The latter quickly pleaded guilty, before being sentenced to 14 days of incarceration (finally reduced to 11 days), a fine of $30,000 and 250 hours of community service. Absent from filming since then, she returned to work last January, joining the cast of “The Good Doctor”, during an episode which served as a launching pad for a spin-off. “The Good Lawyer” was, however, not convincing and the project was aborted.
