The story is told to us by our colleagues at The last news. Last weekend, the federal road police, in collaboration with customs, carried out a control action on Belgian motorways. This targeted international buses and was mainly aimed at detecting drugs. During the inspection, a FlixBus was stopped on Sunday evening at the motorway parking lot along the E17 in Gentbrugge. The bus left Amsterdam towards Lille. Customs and the Federal Highway Police checked the passengers, primarily looking for drugs, until the luggage of a Spanish man and woman was subjected to a check.

They had no drugs, but they had eleven poisonous snakes with them. The animals were stored in a large bag and plastic crates. The firefighters were called and took care of putting the animals in pipes. The animals all belonged to the viper family. The eleven specimens also included a Gaboon puff viper, the largest species of all puff vipers. The animal has huge fangs with which a large amount of venom can be injected. The Gaboon viper is one of the most dangerous species in its range, found primarily in West Africa and parts of East Africa.
