Huawei lets cameras speak for themselves

Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. is shifting its sales strategy away from technical specifications, relying instead on live camera demonstrations to convince consumers across the Asia-Pacific region that its flagship smartphones offer superior color accuracy, according to Asianbusinessreview.

Huawei Shifts Smartphone Sales Pitch to Live In-Store Camera Demos

The company launched the HUAWEI Pura 90s Series, HUAWEI FreeClip 2S, and HUAWEI MatePad Air in Kuala Lumpur on July 14. As part of the rollout, Huawei is inviting customers at its flagship and experience stores to photograph identical scenes using both their personal phones and a Huawei device for a direct comparison.

Andreas Zimmer, product head at Huawei Consumer Business Group, noted that technical specifications alone make camera color accuracy difficult to communicate. “I can almost 100% guarantee that what you’ll notice is that there’s going to be a color difference from your current phone to what you’re seeing with your own eyes, while the Pura is able to represent or actually capture and render what you’re seeing with your eyes in the same way,” Zimmer said in an interview with Retail Asia.

Zimmer explained that the hands-on format addresses regional market preferences, such as the popularity of food photography in Asian markets compared to Europe. Huawei devices utilize artificial intelligence (AI)-based scene recognition to automatically adjust settings based on the subject.

Global Launch of the Huawei Pura 90s Pro Max

The regional rollout accompanies the global market debut of the Huawei Pura 90s Pro Max, a rebranded version of the Pura 90 Pro Max that initially debuted in China in April, as reported by Huaweicentral.

The flagship device introduces several hardware and software upgrades, featuring an Anti-reflection + Scratch resistant Kunlun Glass screen designed to reduce light reflection by up to 70 percent. The new display formulation improves scratch resistance by 16 times, drop resistance by 25 times, and anti-fingerprint coating by nearly 200 percent.

For photography, the Pura 90s Pro Max incorporates a 200-megapixel ultra-large sensor telephoto camera utilizing a 1/1.28-inch sensor with an F/2.6 aperture. The setup supports 4x optical zoom with a 96mm equivalent focal length, 100x digital zoom, CIPA 7.0 image stabilization, and 20x telephoto video shooting. It also includes True-to-Color (multispectral camera) 2.0 technology and EMUI 16 software, which features the Celia AI assistant alongside AI imaging capabilities like AI Composition 3.0, AI anti-glare, and AI Move.
