On Tuesday, October 13, the Latvian government authorized the state enterprise Valsts nekustamie īpašumi (VNĪ) to take over and auction designated properties of the former Liepāja prison, as reported by the LETA agency. The decision involves transferring the complex to the Ministry of Finance before VNĪ organizes the public sale.
The approved state action targets properties situated at 14/16 Darza Street and 14A Darza Street in Liepāja. These parcels encompass the primary prison grounds, administrative spaces, detention blocks, and secondary utility structures.
The largest asset slated for the auction sits at 14/16 Darza Street. This site spans a 0.5662-hectare land plot housing several distinct former prison buildings. The structures include a 312.1-square-meter administrative building and three separate isolation blocks measuring 418.3, 1159.8, and 1711.9 square meters respectively.
Additional infrastructure on the main plot features an 800.5-square-meter utility building, a 613.8-square-meter kitchen facility, guard towers, and a security checkpoint. Fiscal cadastral valuation for the 14/16 Darza Street property stands at 248,150 euros, while its universal cadastral value is calculated at 494,629 euros.
A secondary property at 14A Darza Street consists of a 23.4-square-meter boiler room. While the building itself is part of the upcoming disposal process, the underlying land belongs to the Liepāja municipality. The boiler room holds a fiscal cadastral value of 1,096 euros and a universal cadastral value of 776 euros.
Combined, the two properties carry a total universal cadastral value of 495,405 euros. Official state valuations do not necessarily dictate the final starting price established for the upcoming public auction organized by VNĪ.
