Preparations continue one day before Eid El Kebir

This Saturday, it feels like everyone is out… heading to the supermarket to buy the equipment needed to slaughter the sacrificial sheep or to top up their Eid table.

At the entrance to a supermarket in the town of Taza, people rush towards stalls overflowing with spices, essential ingredients in the preparation of Eid delicacies such as Hmiss, Bakbouka, Kurds, frying (cooking mutton entrails) and drying the meat in the “kadid” sun.

Others make their way to the stalls of dried fruits used to compose assortments or as an accompaniment to certain dishes such as Mrouzia.

The Tazi buy in sufficient quantity even if the prices know a remarkable increase. Prunes went from 40 to 70 dhs per kilogram while the price per kg of dried apricots is between 130 and 150 dhs.

The prices turn out to be a bit expensive, as one customer has noticed, without however being reluctant to buy what he considers essential for Eid.

The fresh fruit stalls are not lacking in customers either. They are surrounded by shoppers who take the opportunity of Eid to treat themselves to a variety of seasonal fruits like watermelons, grapes, melons and others…

To the shopping list, especially on the occasion of Eid Al Adha, is added the necessary equipment for the slaughter of sheep and the equipment for the preparation of other Eid dishes such as the grilling board and the brazier, to prepare cooked meat. We have noticed that a good number of people opt for the traditional Moroccan “Majmar” brazier.

At the heart of the supermarket is added this time a section reserved for charcoal. Passers-by do not miss the opportunity to buy a few kilos. Prices vary between 8 and 10 dhs for the kilo.

Two years after covid, Eid Al Adha, which we are celebrating this year, is an opportunity for Moroccans to spend moments of joy with their families. But, it is also an opportunity for the trader to take advantage of the strong demand to restore his account after the pandemic crisis.
