(, Kyiv, 25th) The Ukrainian capital, Kiev, was attacked by a large-scale Russian drone early this morning. The Ukrainian Air Force said this was the largest wave of drone attacks on Kiev since the war started in February last year. The air force has shot down 71 drones; so far, it has shot down 71 drones. Five people were injured and nearly 200 buildings lost power.

Russia used Iranian-designed “Shahed” suicide drones to attack various districts in Kiev. At dawn, more waves of attacks appeared, and Kiev citizens were awakened by constant air defense sirens and explosions.

A spokesman for the city of Kiev told Ukraine’s state television broadcaster Suspilne that at least 40 drones had been shot down.

Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko posted on the social platform Telegram that the attack had injured five people, including an 11-year-old girl, and that buildings in various districts of Kiev were damaged. He mentioned that after a drone was shot down, it dropped debris and caused a fire in a nursery.

The target of the attack is still unclear, but Ukrainian authorities have warned in recent weeks that Russia will try to replicate last winter’s pattern and launch another air strike to destroy Ukraine’s energy system.

The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine pointed out today that this wave of attacks caused power outages in nearly 200 buildings in Kiev, 77 of which were residential buildings. Central News Agency (translation)
