Senegal: the scourge of plastic bags

Senegal produces more than 4 million tons of waste each year with an almost non-existent recycling system. To reverse this trend, the government has announced the construction of 500 units that will make it possible to recycle plastic waste in particular. In 2020, the country passed a law banning single-use plastics, but on the ground it is rarely respected. Streets across the country remain strewn with bags, sachets and other plastic litter.
