The single-player dark fantasy action RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker sold 1 million copies globally within just 48 hours of its September 3, 2026 launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, according to publisher Bandai Namco and developer Rebel Wolves.
Breaking Records Out of the Gate
Reaching the million-unit threshold in two days marks a commercial milestone for Rebel Wolves, a Warsaw-based studio founded in 2022. Led by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt director and Cyberpunk 2077 co-director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the team built its debut project around a brand-new intellectual property. According to IGN, the studio’s early momentum stems partly from strong critical reception, including a 9/10 review praising its cast of characters and open-world structure.

Members of the development team took to social media to express their disbelief and gratitude as the sales figures rolled in. Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz shared his astonishment on X, calling the milestone surreal, while developer Paweł BANAN Panasiuk admitted to tearing up over the community’s swift embrace of the studio’s maiden title.
Architecting a Century-Spanning Dark Fantasy
Set in 14th-century Europe, The Blood of Dawnwalker casts players as Coen, a protagonist who operates as a human by day and a vampire by night. The narrative engine relies heavily on player choice and features an overarching 30-day in-game clock that dictates the pacing of Coen’s survival. That specific mechanical timer has already polarized the player base, sparking lively debates online and prompting early modifications from the community to reduce friction.

The scope of the project extends far beyond medieval Europe. Bandai Namco released a CGI teaser in June 2026 hinting at future installments set in a modern 21st-century environment. Narrative director Jakub Szamałek embedded subtle narrative breadcrumbs throughout the first game to foreshadow a multi-century arc. Rebel Wolves plans for each subsequent entry in the franchise to function as a standalone experience without utilizing unresolved cliffhangers or time travel mechanics.
As the developers revealed, the next installments of the Dawnwalker franchise will span centuries, continents, and cultures across the globe.
