Two ways to prevent cervical cancer, one of which has been described as the “gold standard”

Al-Marsad newspaper: A report published by “CNN” revealed two main ways to prevent cervical cancer.

The report stated that although more than 12,000 American women were diagnosed with cervical cancer last year, it is still the easiest type of cancer to prevent due to two major tests.

The report explained that the first method is a Pap test, or Pap smear, which detects pre-cancerous cells in the cervix.

The report described this test as the gold standard for cervical cancer prevention. Pointing out that experts recommend a Pap test for all women, between the ages of 21 and 56.

The second method, the report added, is an HPV test that looks for the virus. Noting that about 99% of cervical cancers are caused by this virus.

The report indicated that in some cases, it may be recommended to get the HPV vaccine, after consulting a doctor.
