Viral dental practices denounced by dental surgeons

The Association of Dental Surgeons of Quebec (ACDQ) is launching a campaign to make young people aware of the dangers of certain dangerous dental practices that are increasingly popular on social media.

By means of capsules produced with the influencer Antoine on TikTok, the ACDQ hopes to reach young people to dissuade them from adopting viral dental practices without knowing the long-term repercussions.

Several practices such as filing teeth or home solutions for teeth whitening pose a problem.

“You have to talk to your dentist before you do anything because there are things that work like buying kits from the pharmacy [pour se blanchir les dents]but to make other charcoal paste recipes with lemon juice and brush your teeth with that, in the long run, these are not very winning solutions for the enamel of your teeth, ”explains the president from the ACDQ, Dr. Carl Tremblay, in an interview with TVA Nouvelles.

A series of videos aimed at raising awareness among young people will therefore be released in the coming weeks.

“It’s on Antoine’s TikTok account which is followed by more than 200,000 young people, so a good pool of people. There will be one video per week in April with a new subject every week,” continued Mr. Tremblay.

The campaign named “Verified by your dentist” is therefore underway and will continue throughout the month of oral health.
