“We constantly live in poverty”

The energy crisis does not only affect Belgium. On the contrary, it is all of Europe which is impacted by a historic rise in the prices of gas, electricity, but also fuels. In England, Hannah Naylor, 31, had the worst scare of her life.

When she logs on to her EDF Energy online account to consult her bill, she discovers an astronomical amount to pay: 2.8 million pounds sterling, the equivalent of 3.2 million euros. She came close to having a heart attack: “We can’t afford to lead a ‘normal’ lifestyle. I am the owner of my house and a mother of a 10 year old child who I raise alone. We live in constant poverty,” she told The Sun.

Even in telework, she claims not to turn on the heating to avoid consuming too much, as times are tough for her. So receiving this invoice was a real blow.

But EDF quickly restored order to the chaos: “We have looked into Mrs Naylor’s case and can see that she has been invoiced for £2,801,286.94 due to an incorrect meter reading submitted by the customer, which resulted in a bill that was way too high,” the spokesperson said. He confirms that such a transfer would not have been accepted by the bank since Hannah pays by direct debit. Even if such an amount is not in Hannah’s account anyway.

“The bill was immediately canceled and removed from her account, but Ms. Naylor’s app displayed the incorrect bill balance for a short period of time. »

More fear than harm for this mother.
