BEAMS Sports Opens First Physical Store in Meiji Park Combining Performance Wear and Vintage Fashion

Beams Sports opened a storefront at Meiji Park, blending athletic performance wear with street culture and featuring three running brands making their Japanese retail debuts alongside vintage gear and collaborations.

Retail Hub Opens Next to Parklet Meiji Park

Beams Sports launched a retail location adjacent to the existing Parklet Meiji Park café within Meiji Park. The project evolved from a web media platform launched in 2021 that was originally established to propose a hybrid culture of sports and fashion. The new storefront positions itself to serve runners and sports enthusiasts navigating the athletic zone surrounding the National Stadium.

A Beams Sports representative explained that the decision to build out the Meiji Park location stemmed from organizing running events. The brand identified a need for a physical hub capable of anchoring a local athletic community. By integrating directly with the existing food and beverage space, the retailer aims to propose a retail model that is not limited to standard retail functions.

International Running Labels and Team Collabs Drive Inventory

The product architecture concentrates on performance running, trail running, and basketball apparel. Performance gear anchors the floor space, headlined by three labels making their first-ever retail appearance in Japan: UK-based R.A.D Running, South Africa-based Alex Zono, and Milan-based Wild Tee. Basketball representation comes via a dedicated capsule pairing Winiche & Co. with basketball and sports apparel brand AKTR, expanding on Beams Sports’ previous uniform work with professional clubs like the Ryukyu Golden Kings and KOSÉ 8ROCKS.

Category Brands & Collaborations Regional Origin

Beyond technical gear, the shop sells vintage apparel. Racks feature vintage running tees, retro basketball jerseys, and graphics celebrating global competitions like the Olympics and triathlons. Exclusive store-branded souvenir items, including logo T-shirts, sweatpants, and socks, round out the inventory mix.

Event Integration and Upcoming Tokyo Legacy Marathon Activations

The physical layout of the store is engineered for flexibility, featuring mobile fixtures mounted on tires to clear the floor for community gatherings and launch events. The retail strategy targets “all people who enjoy sports.”

Beams Sports has scheduled immediate pop-up activations tied to the local sporting calendar. The brand deployed its Hoopvan basketball project at the Wellness Park Tokyo event inside Meiji Park through October 14, offering shooting challenges and selling exclusive original items. Additional programming includes custom printing on New Balance T-shirts for the Tokyo Legacy Marathon on October 18, where New Balance serves as the event sponsor.
