Q. Yellow pellets came out of your mouth. What is this?
There are several cave-like grooves on the surface of the tonsils, and while suffering from tonsillitis, bacteria, inflammatory cells, and concentrated mucus components accumulate in these grooves and become clogged.

Q. Do tonsil stones develop into inflammation or cancer if left untreated?
Tonsil stones do not cause serious diseases if left untreated, but they can cause bad breath and a feeling of a foreign body in the throat, which can cause discomfort in daily life.

Q. I see yellow grains in my mouth. Can I remove them by hand?
Tonsil stones may come out on their own while coughing or brushing your teeth. Even if the stone is visible to the naked eye, it should not be removed arbitrarily with a cotton swab or tweezers. There are many blood vessels in the tonsillar mucosa and the mucous membrane itself is weak, so if you try to remove it arbitrarily, secondary infection may occur. If uncomfortable, stones can be removed with an aspirator at an otolaryngologist.

Q. I went to the hospital and removed all the tonsil stones, but it seems to have come back.
Tonsil stones are likely to recur once they occur. This is because the grooves formed on the tonsils are fixed. As a result, ultimately getting rid of the tonsils can be said to be the treatment method.

Q. If I have my tonsils removed, can I get tonsil stones?
Tonsil stones occur physiologically and naturally in the fissures in the tonsils, so even if they are well removed, they may recur after several days to weeks. If you want to completely avoid it, you can go to a tertiary hospital or a university hospital and get a total tonsillectomy. However, in some cases, total tonsillectomy cannot remove 100% of the tonsil tissue, and in this case, tonsil stones may recur as the remaining tonsil tissue grows.
