Due to changed street names in Riga, a taxi ride was three times more expensive

During the trip, the driver became confused and realized that the navigation was leading somewhere else, and not to the address indicated by Lima. The passenger agreed with the taxi driver that she would show her where to go to get to her place of residence. And so it happened. At the end she paid 5.20 euros and went home.

The next morning, Laima was in for a surprise – three times more was debited from her account for the trip than was originally requested – 13.80 euros!

The response from the customer service center confused Laima – the passenger was told that she had called a taxi in the app to Latgales Street, which used to be Jānis Klīlzeis Street. If she had written that she wanted to go to Maskavas Street, she would have gotten to the right place.

The local government explains that the new street names came into force on February 21 of this year. The new information has already been changed in official government registers, so it should also be changed in the information systems of service providers using data from official government registers.

Although Lime had rather bad communication with the support service, the journalists managed to contact the company quite quickly – the fault this time was on their side.

“We are very sorry to hear about this situation. Street name changes have affected our work. At the moment, this process has already been polished, and at that time we were faced with completely new consequences of these changes and were not sufficiently informed and objective. We returned the overpaid money to the client and, of course, apologized to her. We always try to avoid misunderstandings and come to a compromise, but this time, most likely, the employee was on vacation and the client’s last message remained unanswered,” Forus representatives said.

Laima confirms that she was contacted by an employee of the taxi company.
