Luxembourg returned to Eurovision after a hiatus of more than 30 years. The country has not participated in the competition since 1993, despite being one of the most successful in its history. However, already on May 7, Luxembourg delighted Eurofans with its enchanting return. The Grand Duchy’s TALI took to the stage in Malmö, Sweden, in the first semi-final, captivating the crowd with her song “Fighter”.
TALI managed to prove itself well and represent its country with dignity, making it to the grand finals, in which on May 11 it will compete for the crystal microphone. OBOZ.UA watched the number of the representative of Luxembourg live.
The song in French from the contestant talks about “how all people suffer and how they endure suffering.” In particular, TALI gives an example from her own life in New York, where she “experienced so much rejection” in the music industry.
This performance allowed Luxembourg to enter the top ten favorites, who became the first finalists of Eurovision 2024 according to the results of the audience vote.
However, bookmakers do not see Luxembourg among the leaders this year. After the first semi-final, the country was in 22nd place in the analysts’ ranking.
Luxembourg has made its Eurovision debut since the competition was founded in 1956. This country is also one of the most successful participants in the show, because it has as many as 5 victories in its arsenal. Only Ireland and Sweden (7 victories each) have more than them; France, the Netherlands and Great Britain have the same five victories as Luxembourg.
Luxembourg’s two consecutive victories in 1972 and 1973 are especially striking. Unfortunately, after a series of unsuccessful performances in the 80s and early 90s, the country stopped participating in the competition in 1993.
It is known that 23-year-old Tali Golergant was born in Israel and now lives in New York, where she works as a vocal coach and music teacher. She also plays in musicals, notably Les Misérables, and released her first album in 2021. The girl was born in November 2000, which means she has never seen Luxembourg participate in Eurovision. However, it was she who became the artist who returned the country to the competition after such a long break.
