Dominique relayed, via the orange Alert us button, the video that Fabrice, a driver, posted on Facebook. We see a level crossing located rue de la Déportation in Clabecq (Tubize). The two barriers are lowered, which does not prevent cars from crossing the level crossing in both directions.
We have contacted the rail network manager, Infrabel, which confirms the technical incident, detected this morning at 6:44 a.m. A freight train encountered a traction problem, it got stuck on the tracks in the level crossing announcement area, which led to the barriers being closed for an extended period of time.
The spokesperson, Marie Molens indicates that the police zone was notified at 7 a.m. and that it came to manage the traffic, before the problem was resolved at 7:27 a.m.
She recalls that “if the level crossing is closed, there is a very specific reason”and therefore a dangerous situation. “Above all, you shouldn’t venture out… because a train can always arrive in the other direction, you have to respect the signs, it’s a matter of safety” for oneself and for others.
In addition to the risk of fatal accident, circumventing the barrier of a level crossing is a 4th degree offence. Offenders risk a fine ranging from 320 to 4,000 euros and a withdrawal of driving license from 8 days to 5 years.
