British singer Olivia Dean will perform at Auckland’s Western Springs Bowl on Saturday, 17 October 2026, marking the venue’s first concert following a $15 million refurbishment. Organizers have removed planned pyrotechnics from the show.
Western Springs Bowl Welcomes Olivia Dean After $15 Million Revamp
British singer-songwriter Olivia Dean brings her tour to Tāmaki Makaurau, with the performance scheduled for Saturday 17 October 2026 at the newly refurbished Western Springs Bowl. The event marks a major milestone for the venue, which has undergone a $15 million refurbishment into a bowl-style setup capable of hosting tens of thousands of attendees.
High demand for tickets forced organizers to move the show from Spark Arena to the larger outdoor stadium. According to the Auckland Live website, the event has sold out.
The concert follows recent packed performances by the 27-year-old singer in Sydney, where she played two sold-out shows at Afterpay Arena in front of crowds exceeding 20,000 fans. Sydney concertgoers heavily embraced an unofficial dress code sparked by the artist’s viral fashion choices, swarming Sydney Olympic Park in polka-dot outfits and merchandise featuring phrases like I don't need a boyfriend
.
While the Sydney concerts drew praise for intimate crowd energy and performances by support artist Kaiit, the events also sparked online discussions regarding seating etiquette. Kitty O’Brien, a 25-year-old concertgoer from Sydney who lives with endometriosis and autoimmune conditions, shared footage highlighting obstructed views in seated sections caused by standing crowds. Because accessible tickets were unavailable, O’Brien had purchased standard seating but found her view blocked throughout the evening.
Production Changes Drop Pyrotechnics Next to Auckland Zoo
Residents living near the venue initially received notices warning of special effects and elevated noise levels. However, production plans changed before the weekend after Auckland Stadiums confirmed that pyrotechnics were scrapped from the evening’s run of show.

“Since distributing this letter, the production has decided not to proceed with pyrotechnics,”
While stadium management did not explicitly cite animal welfare as the immediate driver for the cancellation, representatives noted that the venue maintains strict operating guidelines alongside the neighboring zoo. An Auckland Zoo spokesperson explained that agreed constraints around noise levels and use of pyrotechnics remain in place to protect animals housed in the area. This event marks the first time pyrotechnics were considered at Western Springs since Post Malone performed at the location in 2023.
Auckland Zoo and Auckland Stadiums, which manages Western Springs Bowl, are part of the council-controlled organisation Tātaki Auckland Unlimited.
Transport Guidelines and Arrival Details for Attendees
With no general on-site parking available and local road closures in effect, transport authorities urge concertgoers to rely on public options. Auckland Transport recommends taking the 11T, 11W, or 18 bus from the city center to Western Springs Park and MOTAT, followed by an eight-minute walk to the Bowl. Alternatively, train passengers can use Morningside or Baldwin Avenue stations, allowing roughly 25 minutes for the walk to the stadium.
