This is therefore the second time that the start of the new school year has been set for the end of August, following in this the reform of school timetables decided by the Government of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and implemented by the Minister for Education, Caroline Désir (PS).

The start of the school year is Monday August 28 and the school year will end on Friday July 5, 2024.

The Fête de la Communauté française falls on Wednesday 27 September.

The first two-week rest period, the All Saints’ or autumn holiday, is fixed from Monday October 23 to Friday November 3, 2023. The second week will coincide with All Saints’ week in Flemish schools.

The first day of the Christmas (or winter) holidays is fixed on Christmas Day, therefore Monday, December 25. Friday, January 5, 2024 will close this vacation period. The two weeks will coincide with the Christmas holidays of the Flemish schools.

And on November 11 and May 9?

Mardi Gras will fall on February 13, 2024 and will be orphaned by the two weeks of the Carnival (or so-called relaxation) holiday which will run from Monday February 26 to Friday March 8, 2024. Here, there is no convergence with the holiday week in the Flemish schools.

Rebelote with the Easter (or spring) holidays which will allow children to rest between Monday April 29, 2024 and Friday May 10 inclusive. They will be shifted in relation to Easter Monday which will fall on Monday April 1 in 2024 (… it’s not a fish!). Puzzle also for parents who have children in both school systems, since there will be no convergence with the Easter holidays of Flemish schools.

Whit Monday is set for Monday, May 20, 2024.

Did we forget November 11 in this calendar? Yes, because it will fall on a Saturday in 2023… As for Ascension Thursday, May 9, 2024, it is included in the two weeks of the Easter holidays.
