“It hurts a lot”
Herman leaves behind his 46-year-old ex-wife, Natascha Haesebrouck, as well as his three children: Pyotr, 15, Yossif, 18, and Petrousjka, 20. “He may have been 62, but he was still full of energy and hard work. That’s why he looked forward to his new job as a teacher. Bringing things and wisdom to young people, he liked it a lot. Unfortunately, this work only lasted one day,” Natascha told the Nieuwsblad. She continues: “My children must continue to live without their father, their hero. And it hurts a lot.”

Pyotr, 15, also expresses his pain: “I can’t even describe how much I’m going to miss dad.” He adds: “We all admired him enormously. He was very handy and taught us literally everything”.

The family awaits the conclusions of the investigation but bears the responsibility on the driver, KK: “There is only one person to blame for this accident, it is clear”, according to Natascha. Herman will be cremated this Friday and a ceremony will be held in his honor next Monday.
