A vehicle with three occupants ended up in the Bocholt-Herentals canal in Lommel overnight from Monday to Tuesday. It was a father with two young children. All three are deceased. The first elements of the investigation indicate that it is an act of desperation.
Called around 00:30, the local police of Lommel went to the scene to make the findings. The Limburg public prosecutor’s office has been informed.
In the town of Lommel, where René, 37, was from, it’s a shock. We knew that he and his wife had recently separated, but no one imagined that he was doing so badly: “The couple was going through a difficult period”, told acquaintances at Laatste Nieuws. “René kept hope, but obviously that was not enough”.
Dani, 7, and Levi, 4, were schooled at ‘t Stekske school: “It’s a new trauma” for the establishment, explained the mayor Bob Nijs. “The disaster in Sierre a few years ago already involved a class from this school. For the school, it’s hard, because they haven’t fully recovered from what happened…”.
