(Archyde.com) – Billionaire investor Warren Buffett donated $4.64 billion worth of Berkshire Hathaway stock to five charities on Wednesday. This brings the total donations since 2006 to more than $51 billion.

Buffett makes an annual donation. Overall, about 13.7 million shares of Berkshire stock (class B) were transferred this year.

Buffett reduces the number of Berkshire shares he donates by 5% each year. But this year, with Berkshire’s stock price soaring, the dollar-denominated donation hit a record high.

He transferred 10.45 million shares to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which was established by Microsoft founder Bill Gates, and has donated more than $39 billion to the foundation.

Buffett has donated more than half of his Berkshire stock. After the transaction, Buffett’s stake will be worth more than $112.5 billion, or 15.1%.
