Actor Lee Jung-jae will not attend the American Golden Globe Awards.

On the 5th, his agency Artist Company said, “It became difficult to attend the awards ceremony because Netflix did not participate in the Golden Globes.” This is considering the atmosphere in which Golden Globes have been neglected by Hollywood since last year due to racism and gender issues.

As the corruption scandal of the Hollywood Foreign Correspondents Association, which hosts the Golden Globes, is exposed, a boycott movement is rising along with criticism that it is a white-dominated awards ceremony. American NBC has canceled the Golden Globes. Netflix, Amazon Studios and Warner Media also joined the Golden Globe boycott.

Lee Jung-jae was nominated for Best Actor in a TV Drama for his Netflix drama ‘Squid Game’. Squid Game was nominated for Best Television Series and Oh Young-soo was nominated for Best Supporting Actor. It is the first time for a Korean drama to be nominated for a Golden Globe.

As for Korean films, ‘Parasite’ and ‘Minari’ have won the Best Foreign Language Film in a row in 2020 and 2021.
