Ubisoft announced Rayman Legends Retold during Sony’s June 2026 State of Play, confirming a reimagining of the 2013 platformer will launch on October 1, 2026. The title comes to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC with new Snowdrop engine visuals and expanded narrative content.
The limbless hero is returning to modern hardware with a complete visual overhaul that trades the original’s hand-drawn style for a polished 3D presentation. Co-developed by Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan, the project rebuilds the classic side-scrolling stages as a 2.5D platformer using the proprietary Snowdrop engine, which also powers titles like The Division 2 and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. While character models and environments render in full 3D with dynamic lighting, the core action retains the precise platforming geometry of the 2013 original.
Release Date, Pricing, and Pre-Order Editions for PlayStation 5 and Switch 2
Gamers can secure their copies ahead of the October 1, 2026 launch window, which sits in a crowded autumn release schedule. Standard editions are listed across platforms, including the Ubisoft Store, Steam and other storefronts including Amazon. PC players on Steam or the Epic Games Store will require a Ubisoft Connect account to play.
Ubisoft has structured several bundles for collectors and returning fans. The Standard Edition includes the base game and Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition. A Deluxe Edition features the base game, Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition, the Retro Pack with four character costumes, an in-game art gallery. Anyone who pre-orders any version receives the Hoodlum Havoc Pack, which adds two costumes inspired by Rayman 3.
New Content, Dragon Rides, and Story Expansions
Beyond a mere graphical coat of paint, the reimagining introduces substantial new gameplay elements and narrative depth. According to hands-on previews from outlets like Tom’s Guide, the levels are now reached through portals in a grand fantasy overworld rather than the original’s gallery paintings, creating a cohesive adventure. The update also introduces on-rails dragon-riding segments where players shoot fireballs to clear obstacles.
“Rayman Legends Retold is our way of revisiting what makes Rayman so special, and re-telling that experience for a new generation of players. We wanted to preserve everything fans love, and Legends gave us the perfect foundation to expand Rayman’s lore, its world logic, and how everything connects together.”
Loïc Gounon, Brand Producer
The expansion features a brand-new sixth world, a mysterious new villain, four all-new musical stages synchronized to an expanded soundtrack by Christophe Héral and Grant Kirkhope, and fully voiced cinematics.
Co-Op Campaign and Returning Modes Like Kung Foot
Multiplayer fans will find familiar social options intact alongside upgraded features. The campaign supports couch co-op for up to four players, allowing friends to team up as Rayman, Globox, Barbara, Grand Minimus, and Murfy. Players can race for Lums or disrupt each other’s progress while navigating levels.

Meanwhile, the fan-favorite minigame Kung Foot returns with improved controls, power-ups, and customizable rules, while the Cave of Trials provides ongoing free challenges for seasoned veterans.
Developer Perspectives on the Franchise Return
The choice to remake Legends rather than build an entirely new adventure has drawn varied reactions from critics who note the 2013 hand-drawn artwork still holds up visually today. However, development leads argue the technical shift serves a distinct artistic purpose.

Guillaume Arvieu, Brand Art Director, noted that this fresh 3D approach serves as a bridge between the visual richness and dramatization of Rayman 2 and 3 and the efficiency and clarity of the side-scrolling gameplay of Rayman Legends. Brand Director Guillaume Cerda emphasized that using our Snowdrop engine to deliver a more expressive Rayman experience allows the team to deepen player immersion while preserving the precise jump-and-glide foundation that fans expect.
